Expressive abstraction inspired by a life lived across continents, shaped by diverse cultures and experiences — created to uplift, inspire, and connect!
In the studio this week…
January is studio month exploring new landscapes, chasing colour and depth. What a great way to start the year! Each palette awakens memories — growing up as a Northern lass, wandering the Yorkshire Dales, school trips from Harrogate that felt like the highlight of the term, visits to York Minster and walks across The Stray. Now, living down South, the Cotswolds and the Somerset countryside inspire my work.
In the studio I build up layers of paint and pattern in a kind of call-and-response. I make a mark — a brushstroke, a pulse of colour, a motif — then listen and reply, always aware of the composition as a whole. That dialogue between intention and response is where the painting breathes. It’s slow, intuitive and deeply therapeutic. The surface accumulates memory, place and feeling until the landscape that started as a walk becomes a painting that invites you to walk in it too. '‘When I first visited Sarah’s studio, her uplifting energy for painting and passion for recapturing memories from her past was very evident, so it’s impressive and inspiring to recognise that same spirit so clearly in her work. Her paintings feel joyous and alive…”

Welcome….
In the past five years I have established my art practice in the UK ( after twenty five years overseas ) leading to solo shows and art fairs, gallery representation and selection for the Royal Academy of Arts’ Summer Exhibition. I love what I do and see art as a means to explore and help others through exhibitions, commissions, teaching, and art retreats in Andalucía, Spain.
“Sarah Boden your use of colour touches me more than any other artist. I feel grateful to have something you created in my own home and someday I wish to add another”. MK
