I am delighted to announce the second of five workshops for BRACE which will incorporate ideas we looked at in the first workshop such as value and design with mixing colours, how to apply them and how to make them quiet or loud. All in the name of making your art stronger.

Please note, if you missed the first workshop feel free to join in as we will go over these ideas again as we look at how they influence using colour.

Colour charts- it started as a good idea and drove me kind of crazy but in the end I loved it and it has been so useful! I won’t be making you copy this but it does show the variety of shades/tones which can be made from a few basic colours.

The aim of the workshops is to create an hour of fun, relaxation and joy after the difficult year we have all experienced. We would like as many people as possible to take part, not just because every £5 donation to Brace dementia research is invaluable, but so that you can learn new skills which you can use at home, with your partner, children or grandchildren. Skills which help you to make your art stronger, record ideas in a pocket sketchbook or use as a visual diary- its up to you. The sky’s the limit!

To make it easy there is no need to buy lots of materials and if you have paints at home please feel free to use them. We will look at colour and explore how it is applied in both acrylics and watercolours to make your art stronger.

If you would like to buy paints the standard sets in acrylics and watercolours from Daler-Rowney or Winsor & Newton are fine which will give you the basic colours. These can be mixed to give a wide variety of colours and shades. If you are looking for specific colours you could consider....

Cadmium red, Cadmium orange, Cadmium yellow light, cadmium yellow dark, carbon black, titanium white, cerulean Blue, Dioxazine purple, Pthalo green (yellow shade), Pthalo blue, Ultramarine Blue, Yellow Ochre.

(The names may change as cadmium is a trace metal and these paints are slowly being replaced by suppliers which is better for us and the environment).

In addition-

Photos or pictures from a magazine for inspiration

Heavyweight cartridge paper (300gms/ 140lbs) or acrylic paper

Brushes

Scissors

Masking tape

Two jam jars/ pots for water.

Looking forward to seeing you there!
