Watercolour -seascapes, studies and more!

Many art students are told to major in a particular subject and medium, in order to search for their own particular style. Art is an expression of your emotions and I find that to achieve this and be true to my practice experimentation is crucial and style is something which grows as you experiment.

Anyone who sketches will tell you how much this opens up your view on the world, how you take note of every colour and line in an attempt to find inspiration. For instance, on holiday in Langkawi I spent a long time on the beach, sketching the waves and watching how light is reflected and refracted on the water. This became a series of studies which, in turn, inspired a series of paintings in the studio. Again and again I return to these small watercolours looking for ideas, each one bringing back happy memories from warmer countries.

I particularly love how the light bounces off the water, the sense of calm and freedom.

Each line represents an event in the flow of life, whether turbulent or pleasurable. Events in my own life have led me to question our mortality, the choices we make and how we interact, connect and sometimes isolate ourselves from the ones we love.
