Freedom of Flight awarded the Jean Kent Art Prize
I am delighted that Freedom of Flight (Quantock Hills) has been awarded the Jean Kent Art Prize at the Clevedon Art Club 64th Open Exhibition.
All four submitted paintings from the One World Series were selected by the independent judges; Katherine O’Shea, Peter Ford RWA and Peter Longman FRSA for the exhibition in Clevedon Atrium. As we don’t find out if work has been accepted there was a lot of anticipation amongst the artists on Preview night. Delighted that it was Stephen Lisney who presented the prize as acting Chair of the Clevedon Art Club.
Wild Water Swimming, Seize the Day and Under One Sky are all for sale and can be found here
Since returning to live in the UK I explore abstract landscapes as a means to establish our sense of place and connectivity with the life we led travelling and working overseas. The quintessentially English fields and landscape became symbolic of home and now this idea forms the basis for an exploration into place and connectivity between the east and west.
I held this view close for so long whilst we were away from England and unsurprisingly it keeps resurfacing in my artwork. It speaks of a sense of place, home and light.
Inspired by many discussions about poetry, and literature whilst trekking around the Cornish coast, this painting captures the light on the water at Constantine Bay in Cornwall. At the end of the path is the freedom, light and joy of childhood memories.
